ACT Stands Strong Against Offshore Drilling
This week, ACT attended both BOEM public meetings for the 2019-2024 Draft Proposed Program. The plan proposes to open waters off the Mid Atlantic coast to oil and gas development. Acknowledging the many environmental, economic, and health issues that offshore drilling would cause for the area, ACT was among a large attendance of those telling the current administration to keep offshore drilling out of the Atlantic.
"Delaware has said no repeatedly and again to offshore drilling. The last plan was finalized in December of 2016, and in April of this year President Trump restarts this process. What changed in three months? We didn’t go anywhere. Our opinions didn’t change. We don’t want this off our coast. Together we’re going to beat this. We have a world class ecosystem here on the east coast. It’s not worth putting that at risk. Let President Trump and this administration know that we have not gone anywhere, and our opinions have not changed." -ACT's Matt Heim at the Dover BOEM meeting
Despite a packed house of opposition toward the 2019-2024 DPP, Representative Andy Harris was nowhere to be found.
“If you notice, there’s somebody missing. Representative Andy Harris. We need him to come out fully opposed to offshore drilling.” -Assateague COASTKEEPER, Kathy Phillips at the Annapolis BOEM meeting
We must come together. We must encourage everyone that calls this beautiful coastal region home to stand in opposition of leasing the Atlantic to offshore oil.
“I just want to say again how important this issue is. We cannot be silent. Everybody has to engage. Be sure to get your friends, your neighbors, your communities to join this effort.” -Assateague COASTKEEPER, Kathy Phillips at the Annapolis BOEM meeting
