"Climate Change on the Delmarva: What's Coming and How Communities of Faith Can Lead the Dialougue"
Speaker: Greg Farley

Come learn about latest predictions for climate and sea-level impacts on the Eastern Shore, and what's being done to respond to the science.  21st-century leadership will need to take good science into account, but needs to include people from all walks of life, including science, public policy, and faith communities.  Each of these groups has something unique, and critical, to offer to the regional dialogue!

About Greg Farley
Greg Farley is the Director of the Chesapeake College Center for Leadership in Environmental Education.  He leads the College’s sustainability efforts, including renewable energy, carbon neutrality, and watershed remediation, and works with community partners on climate change and resiliency planning.  He was named a 2013 “Climate Hero” by the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, and has won several awards for teaching in the natural sciences.  He is co-editor, with Jennifer Chirico, of “Thinking Like an Island:  Navigating a Sustainable Future in Hawaii.” A biologist by training, he holds degrees from Duke University and The Florida State University.

"Delmarva's Response to Climate Change"
Speaker: Mike Pretl

Mike Pretl will discuss strides taken here on Delmarva in recent years (and others not taken) on both adaptation to, and mitigation of, the harmful effects of climate change. He will present a hopeful message of how we as Delmarva residents, as citizens and also as consumers might contribute to prevent or to ease the worst impacts of a changing climate.  He will describe the "great transition" underway today -- despite obstacles in Washington -- to help preserve our nation, our state and our remarkable peninsula for future generations.

About Mike Pretl
Mike Pretl is a retired attorney who has resided on Delmarva since 2004, and has been active with environmental and other activist causes, and with numerous nonprofits, throughout his career.  He has served as president and volunteer counsel for the Wicomico Environmental Trust, and was recently on the boards of the Lower Shore Land Trust, and of Sierra’s Club’s Maryland Chapter – where he now serves as PAC treasurer.  He is also current president of the Nanticoke Watershed Alliance, and a trustee of the Maryland Environmental Trust.  He has taught Environmental Law at Salisbury University, and most recently, taught two successive courses on Climate Change for the local Association for Lifelong Learning.
