*8 am - 12 pm
*North Ocean Beach at Assateague Island National Seashore
ACT will host the 2019 International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) event simultaneously with Assateague Island National Seashore's National Public Lands Day beach clean up at Assateague Island National Seashore on Saturday, September 28th from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.
Participants at this year's event will meet at the south end of the North Ocean Beach parking lot at AINS for check in. All participants will be welcomed into the park admission free in honor of National Public Lands Day.
Last year, over 350 volunteers came out to Assateague for the 2018 ICC. Residing as one of the more popular beach cleanups of the year, university departments, schools, organizations, businesses, and individuals are encouraged to attend as ACT and the NPS facilitate the annual cleanup. Those who come out will have the opportunity to talk with ACT staff about their Trash Free Assateague program and it's unique approach to addressing the waste and plastic issues facing our societies and the planet on which they depend.
The Ocean Conservancy utilizes trash data in order to better understand the sources and types of trash accumulating in coastal environments. To better document this data, volunteers are encouraged to download the Ocean Conservancy’s Clean Swell app and use it to report their data at this years ICC.
Questions concerning the 2019 ICC at AINS should be sent to Billy Weiland at billy@actforbays.org.
