ACT will host the internationally recognized SplashTrash ArtExpo, a 50 minute video showcasing hundreds of splashtrash art pieces from artists around the world, which will air in the theater at the Assateague Island National Seashore Visitor Center.
Splashtrash art is created out of plastic collected from oceans, rivers, lakes and other waterways. It is currently the newest and fastest growing global art genre. Most splashtrash art has been created since 2000. At the beginning of the century there were a few dozen splashtrash artists; now there are hundreds as marine plastic pollution is becoming more widespread and visible.
The International SplashTrash ArtExpo is the largest and most diverse collection of this powerful new art genre in the world. Each artist is unique, yet they share a common passion - they want their art to raise awareness about plastic pollution in our waterways and inspire people to reduce their plastic footprint. Their stories are powerful and inspirational. Their art is diverse, captivating and provocative.
The expo will begin at 2 pm on Saturday, August 18th with Trash Free Assateague founder, Billy Weiland, available at the visitor center to discuss SplashTrash Intl. and the Trash Free Assateague campaign. Beginning at 2:30 pm, a premier of the video showcasing hundreds of splashtrash art pieces from artists around the world will air in the National Park visitor center theater.
The video of the splashtrash art will be available for viewing at the Visitor Center theater through August 24th, with shows looping continuously from 2pm through 5pm. You may join the show at any time and leave at any time.
IF NOT YOU, WHO? MAKE A COMMITMENT TO REDUCE YOUR OWN PLASTIC FOOTPRINT! Visit the ACT table near the Visitor Center touch tank display and sign a card to make your own commitment for 30 days. Check out the posters on the ACT table for more information about the 'Reduce, ReUse, ReCycle' Commitment.
