Virginia Blue Bells (Mertensia Verginica)
Produces lovely pink buds that open to saphhire blue bell flowers in March - May. Excellent in woodland setting and waterside plantings. Natural habitat: floodplains, slope forests. Pollinated by long- tongued bees, but supports many other early pollinators. Best in organic-rich, well drained soils with even moisture. Pt.shade/ shade. This species is ephemeral, which means that its foliage dies back in summer. Interplant with other perennials. Reseeds freely. Great massed. Available in 1 quart pots. Ht: 8 - 24 inches.
