Description: Dense spikes of brilliant red blooms in July to October, offsets from lower leaves put down roots which become the plant next year, moist to wet, humus-rich, sandy & clay soils, short-lived perennial that self-sows, valued for its ornamental blooms and color, attracts birds, depends on hummingbirds, which feed on the nectar, for pollination.
