Thick, spore- bearing spikes that turn from green to chocolate brown appear in April. Muddy, sandy, clay, loam, acidic soils. Natural habitat: boggy areas, shades ledges. Deciduous. Bristly root crown, (Osmunda Fiber) is used as a potting medium for orchids. Available in 1 quart pots. Ht: 3 - 4 feet.
