TEAM BUILDING CLEANUPS – An extension of Trash Free Assateague!
Assateague Coastal Trust (ACT) is providing stewardship opportunities and advocating for a clean watershed and healthy coastal ecosystem. Cleanups are an important part of our mission to protect and preserve, not only Assateague Island, but the entire Atlantic Coastal Bays Watershed and the surrounding Lower Shore Region.
Our Trash Free Assateague Program (TFA) mobilizes dozens of volunteers to remove debris from Assateague State and National Parks as well as our adopted streets in Ocean City, MD. At TFA Cleanups, our coordinator Billy Weiland discusses the mission and presents a brief program including the issues associated with plastic pollution. He uses these events to encourage participants to adopt more sustainable consumer choices. After which, the volunteers comb the waterline, dunes and surrounding area for trash and debris which is weighed and documented.
We could use your help! Consider coordinating a sponsored cleanup with our outreach coordinator, Billy!
