Winter Waterfowl
'Birding Experience'

Join ACT for a winter birding adventure at the breathtaking Newport Farms and experience the Eastern Shore at its finest! 

 

On Saturday, February 21 (rain/snow date: Saturday, February 28), we’ll explore ponds and fields alive with geese, ducks, swans, and a variety of additional bird species that call this special landscape home.

 

This guided bird walk is led by Taylor Swanson, Executive Director & Assateague Coastkeeper, an avid bird expert with a passion for sharing knowledge. Taylor will share insights on bird behavior, habitats, and the vital role birds play in supporting a healthy ecosystem and clean water.

 

 Scopes provided for close-up viewing. Dress warmly and bring your binoculars if you have them.

🎟 Tickets are $30 per person and registration is required.

Gather your friends for a bundled-up good time and bring in the birds at this magical winter excursion!

'Pressed Nature'
Garden Keepsakes

 

Join ACT and a panel of educators from the UMES Maryland Extension along with Beth Sheppard from Lower Shore Land Trust who is a Restoration Manager and Pollinator Habitat expert for an engaging and informative workshop focused on the vital role pollinators play in our ecosystems.

 

At this event, the discussion will include the benefits and importance of planting native species, along with practical, approachable tips for gradually weaning out invasive plants commonly found in home landscapes. (this is an important topic)

 

The workshop will conclude with a hands-on pressed flower resin craft, led by local artisan Debbi Dean, where participants will create a one-of-a-kind keepsake inspired by nature.

 

Date - Wednesday, March 25

Time - 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Location - Berlin Beer - Broad Street, Berlin MD.

Get ready to relive the excitement with this hands-on Sip of Science Series adventure during Earth Week.

 

Join Josh Chamberlain, Founder and President of Go Green OC, Ocean City’s award-winning nonprofit dedicated to sustainability, environmental education, and community-driven solutions. Under his leadership, Go Green OC has diverted nearly 1.3 million pounds of food waste from landfills through the Eastern Shore’s largest composting operation partnering with local businesses, festivals, and organizations to move our region toward a zero-waste future.

 

We are invited to a behind-the-scenes peek at his “homeland,” where the compost gold mine thrives. During this immersive experience, you’ll see firsthand how food scraps transform from rags to riches in the compost world, that support healthier soils and thriving gardens. Josh will walk us step-by-step through the process of turning food waste into nutrient-rich soil and you may never look at your kitchen scraps the same way again.

 

As a thank-you for attending, everyone will receive a bucket of compost to take home for their gardens. And those gardens will be extra happy when you pair that compost with native plants from ACT’s upcoming Native Plant Sale 🌱

 

Come explore the gold mine, learn the science, and gather a little wealth of your own.
