IIiah Fehrer - Judy Johnson Memorial Walk

This annual event has been a longstanding tradition for Assateague Coastal Trust. Since the first walk in 1980, hosted by ACT's founding member Ilia Fehrer, a family tradition became a Community Legacy!  Members from our local community and afar have gathered with ACT to celebrate the New Year with a walk on our National Seashore and State Park, Assateague Island.

We are encouraging you all to join us on January 1st, 2023, to ring in the new year with what Assateague Island has to offer us. From the splendor of nature, amazing wildlife and beyond offering up right here in your own backyard. Enjoy the trails, embrace the wooded areas, enjoy the water, and all the treasure the island offers. Assateague Coastkeeper and staff at Assateague Coastal Trust are partnering with Assateague State Park for a guided beach walk and clean up at the Assateague State Park Day use lot. (there is no entrance fee) As you explore, look for winter waterfowl, raptors, sika deer, and of course the wild horses. Dress for the weather and bring work gloves! Stop by the Day-Use boardwalk for a fireside chat with the park staff, share stories, ask questions and make a connection. Hot chocolate will be provided by ACT. The hike will start at 10:00am and the staff will be available 10am-12pm. What better way to start off the New Year then with a gift to our earth! This New Year event presents the perfect opportunity to turn off your media, inhale the fresh air, and discover what Judy Johnson loved most about the Island. Nature surrounds you from every angle, and the nature of the outdoor element has a way of bringing solace to one's spirit. The sounds, smells and visuals will be sure to embrace you.
